October’s New Moon, arriving in the air sign of Libra, begins a fresh lunar cycle as the month unfolds. After the recent Harvest Full Moon in Aries, this New Moon brings the promise of stepping into new beginnings in our relationships, but not before a deep dive. Ruled by Venus, currently in retrograde, this Moon has much to reveal – let’s take a look…
In this blog, we’ll unpack:
- What the New Moon in Libra symbolises
- Ways to welcome the New Moon in Libra, including prompts for working with your journal
- Key dates for this lunar cycle
What does a New Moon in Libra bring?
The sign of Libra, represented by the scales, turns our attention to Venusian topics such as relationships, what we truly value, and our sense of balance and beauty in life. As an innately creative sign, Libra can also help us find the joy in connecting to our creative selves.
A New Moon in Libra usually brings an opportunity to breathe emotional truth into our relationships, both with ourselves and with others. It can help us reconnect with what sparks our creativity, emphasise close female connections in our world, and, where there might be discord, seek an emotionally fair, diplomatic outcome.

How can I tune into this New Moon?
Firstly, we need to pay attention to Venus, this New Moon’s ruler. Venus is currently in the water sign of Scorpio and in retrograde. This means that, from our viewpoint on Earth, Venus appears to be travelling backwards, or ‘in retrograde’, for the next five weeks. This retrograde motion in Scorpio’s mystical depths symbolises an opportunity to dive deeper into the Venusian areas of our lives. We may find that an excavation of relationships, finances or how we express creativity becomes a theme. This energy may feel present at the New Moon - and beyond - as we move with Venus’s retrograde journey.
Elsewhere in the skies: Saturn in Aries is opposing the New Moon, but a generous Jupiter in Leo is energising it. Mars and Venus are squaring each other, signifying that something is being figured out. In this mix of energies, trying to get to the truth of the matter and find clarity may feel bumpy. However, if we can take responsibility for balancing the bigger picture with delving deeper, the long-term benefits of embracing authenticity and gaining wisdom are worth persevering for.

Looking ahead…
The astrological year is now turning more introspective, perfect for journeying within. The Venus retrograde is part of this, just as the Mercury retrograde is as well - coming later in the month. Alchemy is certainly in the air, but the skies are asking us to slow down to figure out what this means. It may not always feel comfortable, but this isn’t a process to be rushed; please be kind to yourself as we move through this next cycle.

Five ways to work with the New Moon in Libra:
- Reflect on your relationships: What is coming to light now? Do you need to redefine boundaries or responsibilities in your relationships so that they feel more balanced? Make space for the answers to unfold.
- Slow down to seek clarity: If any confusion is clouding your judgement, pause to clarify the situation so you are clear on your feelings and the feelings of others.
- Keep a broad view: Whilst Venus wants us to dive deep, it’s important not to lose sight of the bigger picture. Remember what you are truly grateful for to help keep perspective.
- Get inspired: Pick up those paints, visit the gallery, craft a story, or colour-code that spreadsheet! Let your heart lead you to whatever inspires your creative self.
- Set your intentions: If you plan to set intentions with this New Moon, be aware that they may get tweaked as the cycle unfolds due to the retrogrades, so stay flexible and ensure you have room for movement!
