Embracing the practical magic of Virgo - How to ground yourself with September’s New Moon

September 10th: PDT 20.27 | EDT 23.27| September 11th BST 04:27

Our next New Moon, arriving in the earth sign of Virgo, signals the need for a practical path. This energy is preparing us for the shift in seasons and what lies ahead. Let’s explore what she has to teach us and welcome this new cycle in…

In this blog, we’ll unpack:

Virgo is a sign that is often associated with perfectionist tendencies, but what is usually missed is the reason why this sign pays such careful attention to the details. Some of the answer lies in the need to feel prepared for what is to come and a natural inclination to sort the wheat from the chaff as part of this process.

This reflects the transitional season of Virgo from summer into autumn (in the northern hemisphere) and the careful preparation so often needed ahead of seasonal shifts.

What does a New Moon in Virgo bring?

A New Moon in this sign signifies fresh beginnings and a chance to organise, declutter and let go of what doesn’t serve you. The space that can be created when we tap into practical decluttering can often lead to freeing up mental and emotional room, so don’t miss the magic underneath the practicalities! This is where intuition becomes more felt and easier to tune into.

How can I work with this New Moon?

September’s New Moon provides an opportunity to look back at what the August eclipses revealed. Did they illuminate or nudge you towards a change? If they did, consider what the next steps might be.

It’s also a perfect New Moon to consider which little rituals help you to feel rested and grounded each day. How can you prioritise what helps you to stay centred, even in the midst of change?

Looking ahead…

Around the time of the New Moon, we also see Mercury moving into Libra, Venus moving into Scorpio and Uranus in Gemini stationing to turn retrograde. These shifts will create a different and deeper perspective as we move through September. The New Moon can help us create a grounded backdrop and one which we can carefully assess these changes from.

With an upcoming Venus retrograde, we may also start to prepare for attention being placed on relationships and who/ what we truly value.

How to welcome the Virgo New Moon:

  • Get grounded: Tune into Virgo’s Earth energy by being outside. Take time to connect with nature - walking somewhere peaceful, meditating or tending to your garden can be a beautiful way to honour this New Moon.
  • Simplify your routines: Consider how you can streamline daily habits, so they feel lighter, easier, and aligned with your most grounded self.
  • Infuse magic into your everyday rituals: Virgo invites you to find the sacred in simple rituals, from stirring your tea clockwise with an intention for a good day, to taking ten minutes to ground yourself in your lunch hour.
  • Consider what you have learnt: Reflect on what became clear over the recent eclipse season. Are you ready to make any changes that are needed and put plans into place?
  • Set intentions: Take time to journal and set grounded intentions for the cycle ahead. Be sure they feel realistic and can anchor you in some self-care.

Light a candle, get comfy, and grab your journal…here are some prompts to explore and help you set intentions for this cycle:

New Moon in Virgo Journal Prompts:

  • What did eclipse season reveal to me?
  • Which everyday rituals can I bring in to help me feel more grounded?
  • What keeps me centred while allowing me to remain receptive to change?
  • When I slow down and create space, what does my intuition draw me towards?

Wishing you a beautiful New Moon,

With blessings,
